The Significance of Howlite: Enlightenment and Meditation

The significance of Howlite in its purest form is not immediately obvious from its physical appearance. When it comes to enlightenment and knowledge, the naturally occurring crystals offer a beautiful white base. However, while the stones themselves are certainly potent, they do not represent the full power of Howlite in your life. You see, not only do the beautiful white stones facilitate a form of “enlightenment lite,” they’re also excellent for meditation. When you encounter the stone in your meditation space, it couldn’t be more appropriate to consider what could be known as the “secret Howlite mantra.”

It is also good for making hardly perceptible connections with the spirituality that is a natural part of your being.

Metaphysical Properties and Benefits of White Howlite

Metaphysical Properties and Benefits of White Howlite: Calming and Relaxing: If you want to take the edge off after a busy day, consider calming your body and atmosphere with some White Howlite. This mineral from the borate family (Howlite is hydrous calcium borate) definitely lives up to its “Calm” label. If you subscribe to the idea that crystals have energies that can be used in our favor, it only makes sense to have this one hanging around. This cutie will assist you with being more unbothered, with being un-provoked, and (my favorite) with just being. Howlite is not known (in my experience) for giving you a sudden boost of energy to go out and achieve something crazy. Instead, it is known (at least on my block) for paving the way to more relaxation and a more peaceful atmosphere. Wouldn’t you be more inclined—if you were a peaceful person not easily provoked—to go out and quietly achieve something?

Howlite and the Sirius Star System

Howlite can help one work with the minerals associated with the star system Sirius. This system includes a number of high-frequency, highly evolved spiritual life forms and is connected to a number of different dimensions. We will go into more detail about that in the next chapter.

In regards to the mind, it’s a crystal that promotes peace, calm, and memory retention. If you give howlite a try in your meditative practices, while you’re doing that, taking some deep, calming breaths will only help boost howlite’s energy and allow it to work more in your favor.

Howlite and the Crown and Third Eye Chakras

Howlite is primarily linked to the Crown Chakra, situated at the head’s apex. The Crown Chakra embodies higher consciousness, spiritual connection, and enlightenment. Howlite’s energy resonates with the Crown Chakra, promoting not just spiritual attunement but also intuitive enhancement and a deeper connection to the spiritual plane. Consequently, one may experience a heightened sensation of the energies surrounding them. In addition, Howlite is associated with the Third Eye Chakra; thus, if the Crown Chakra is not your focus, then the Third Eye is an equally viable chakra pathway representative of Houlite’s energy.

Balancing Work with the Crown and Third Eye Chakras

When you work with White Howlite, you are achieving the balancing work necessary for the Crown and Third Eye Chakras. These two spiritual centers are essential to the kind of growth you certainly want to experience while working with any crystal, and especially the kind that leads to an “aha!” moment in which you’re able to link your ordinary, day-to-day existence with the limitless nature of what we sometimes call “the Cosmos.”

White Howlite’s connection to communication makes liberating ideas that have been stuck inside you a big part of its purpose. Helping with this is one of the predominant properties of Howlite in general. When you think about it, the mineral structure of White Howlite has so much to tell. Its brilliant (spaces) and (directions) speak to the realm of ideas and concepts. In terms of the Air element for White Howlite, we could say that it is an idea carrier.

Howlite is a soothing companion for meditation. When one is practicing meditation, the vibrations of this stone can help bring the mind to a quiet, peaceful, and focused state. Bringing a Howlite palm stone into your hand or placing it next to you while meditating can be of great benefit. You might consider these next few lines a kind of “mantra,” or repetitive thoughts, to help you reach that serene, meditative state of being. The energy of this stone encourages deep intuition and a spiritual connection with the higher realms.

The History of Howlite and Its Cultural Significance

For thousands of years, cultures in North America have used howlite. It has a long history of use in making pendants and beads and has served as the basis for other decorative items as well. The appearance of the mineral on the planet stretches back tens of millions of years, though its name and meaning are much more recent. Still, meaningful connections are forged when howlite is worn, whether that be in the form of a pendant, beads, or a similarly decorative item. Today, when White Howlite is worn, it is often done so with intentions of achieving a healthy balance between mind and body—or, at the very least, appearing stylish while going about the day.

Howlite Earrings and Chakra Balancing

White Howlite earrings worn near the Crown and Third Eye Chakras are a superb means of balancing and aligning those important energy centers. Earrings, being placed on the head, allow Howlite to work its magic very close to the Third Eye, which is the gateway to higher consciousness. This powerful elixir—Howlite, the ear, and the night—could promote the kind of restful sleep that allows the sleeper to connect with their higher self, on the level of the elusive Lacquered Aya. Wearing Howlite in any form also keeps its lovely properties very accessible for those times when you want to unlock the door to meaningful dreams or dream exploration.

Wearing Howlite Bracelets and Rings for Positive Energy

It’s best to wear your bracelet or ring on your dominant hand. This is your receiving hand, and White Howlite will send its calm and positive vibrations your way. If you’ve got a piece with you, it’s as good an energy attractor as there is to see you through the day. There’s something about the appearance of a stone that just looks and feels tranquil. A small, tumbled stone is a perfect talisman for those times when you need to touch base with your oracular self and slow your inner tornado.

Howlite’s Influence on Your Environment

Put a piece of White Howlite in your dwelling, workspace, or anywhere else you want to bring a sense of peace, clarity, and harmony. This rock blesses the environment with serenity. It can take a conversation from awkward to smooth. It can get two people who are on opposite sides of an issue to reach a compromise. It can also attract cleansing energy. So if you want your bedroom to be a place where you can escape from the onslaught of our modern, 24/7 society, put some White Howlite in it. And if you want to make your bathroom a spa-like oasis, you should definitely place that rock there.

Howlite Cleansing and Care

To keep the White Howlite at its best, it’s necessary to cleanse it regularly. This stone is not something you want to get wet. Howlite is a quite porous stone, and cleansing methods that depend on water can ruin it. As with most stones, Howlite can handle a bit of heat; so if you smoke cleanse with sage or palo santo, the Howlite is in no danger. You’re probably more likely to set it on a charging plate made of selenite or moonlight the stone, but there’s no one right way to achieve smoke-cleansing.

Geological Composition and Appearance of Howlite

Howlite is a borate mineral found in sedimentary rock formations. It is a naturally white mineral that can have varying amounts of inclusion or impurity present with it in the host rock where it forms, which gives it a coloration that is very distinctive. It can have gray or brown colorations, or even colors that are very close to black, which can give it a visually striking appearance—something that is expected of any rock formation that is going to be part of any jewelry, for example.

The Geological Processes Behind Howlite Formation

Howlite is the product of two geological processes—hydrothermal activity and metasomatism. In hydrothermal activity, mineral-rich fluids circulate through the Earth’s crust. These fluids are very hot (up to 400° C) and are under high pressure. They are rich in dissolved minerals, including calcium, boron, and silicon. When these fluids find their way into rock fractures and other spaces, they cool down and deposit their dissolved minerals, which crystallize in the rock over time. Meanwhile, in the process of metasomatism, the hot mining fluids change the chemistry of the surrounding rocks. The combination of these two processes over (not just years but) millions of years has resulted in deposits of Howlite.

Mining and Discovery of Howlite

Howlite is frequently found alongside other minerals like gypsum and calcite. It is classically located in sedimentary rock formations, from which it must be extracted during mining. However, remnants of the host rock frequently remain within the Howlite and result in the distinctive appearance of the black or gray veins that are seen in many samples. Howlite was first discovered in 1868 by Henry How, who encountered it in a gypsum mine. That’s where Howlite was originally found—and discarded.

Howlite Dyeing Process and Popularity

The stone gained popularity because it can easily be colored to resemble other gemstones, like coral or turquoise. Howlite might be dyed, and that’s not a bad thing. The dyed stones are beautiful in their own right and far more affordable than the genuine articles they resemble. They’re probably not used any more or less than back in the day when we colored our hair and planned our outfits to look like we were lounging in the ’70s sun. But there’s life with and without dye, and with hair bleach and an undercut, we’re living the life of dyed Howlite.

Howlite’s Nodular Formation and Rarity

This extraordinary stone frequently forms in nodular lumps that often look like heads of cauliflower. Although White Howlite usually forms in a nodular shape, it has been known to crystallize on a few rare occasions. When it does crystallize, the resulting specimens are considered to be even more valuable than its more common form, which is found in nodular lumps. Howlite doesn’t have the strength of many other minerals, and it grades at just 3.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Still, it has a form that many specimen drawers would consider a collection-worthy prize.

The Texture and Appearance of Howlite

This mineral is usually opaque, but it can sometimes be found with a translucent quality. Its surfaces always present a finish that’s chalky but not quite as sandy as you would find with talc. Howlite is generally a whitish mineral with a somewhat uneven texture, although it can sometimes take on a bluish or greenish cast. It was first found in Nova Scotia but has since been located throughout Canada and Mexico and in a few other regions around the world. Because the mineral isn’t valuable, it can be found in large quantities in some places, including Southern California, where you can collect your own Howlite from a nearby old Borax mine.

Howlite vs. Magnesite: Key Differences

Howlite is frequently confused with Magnesite because of their close resemblance; however, these two stones are not at all similar in a scientific sense. Howlite is a calcium borosilicate, while Magnesite is a magnesium carbonate. Both minerals have a Mohs hardness of 3.5; yet Magnesite is very slightly denser and heavier in weight. Most of the “Howlite” found on the market today is actually Magnesite from Zimbabwe.
